Student Chapter Seeking Concrete Industry Guest Speakers

SJSU's ACI Student Chapter moving virtually

Historically, the ACI Student Chapter at San Jose State University (SJSU) has been very active in ACI’s concrete competitions.  With ACI’s recent change to web-based conventions due to the coronavirus pandemic, the students are focusing their efforts on webinars, resumé workshops, and (hopefully) site visits.

The Student Chapter has launched an aggressive marketing campaign within SJSU’s college of engineering to recruit new members.  The goal is to reach 40 members.

The students have also created a new website that allows them to showcase the Student Chapter’s past achievements and inform its members about upcoming events.  The site tracks its members and accepts dues payments through PayPal.  You can check it out at https://www.acisjsuchapter.com.  The Student Chapter is also conducting introductory sessions at the beginning of relevant classes to present the benefits of membership and encourage students to register.

Student Chapter President, Ioana Dimitriu, is working to schedule webinars with people in the concrete industry to provide opportunities for student members to meet with industry leaders, learn about the firms operating in the area, and gain knowledge about new products and technologies.  The events would be a “lunch and learn” format, between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m., and consist of a 30-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute question and answer session.

NCA & WNV Chapter members interested in supporting this effort and being a guest speaker are encouraged to contact Ioana at aci.sjsu@gmail.com.
