Your Local ACI Chapter – An “Essential” Resource!

Report from Robert Hightower, Acting Chapter President

Why I’m Serving as Acting Chapter President

First, you might be asking, “Wait… how is HE President…again? Wasn’t he President a few years ago?”

In June, Clay Slocum was elected Chapter President by an overwhelming majority of votes. But due to personal and family reasons, Clay felt he would not be able to properly fulfill the role of President this year. The Board chose to solicit a past president – who could step in immediately as Acting Chapter President. I am privileged to be the Board’s selection. I hope to provide leadership and properly fulfill the responsibility the Board and Chapter have placed with me.

The Challenges of COVID-19 for Certification

For several months, our Certification sessions were suspended. Chapter staff and volunteers worked diligently to find session locations compatible with COVID restrictions. With reduced session sizes and our specific COVID protocols in place, the Chapter is again conducting sessions! Learn More and See the Schedule.

But we cannot meet the demand with a reduced schedule. In 2019, the Chapter conducted over 1,500 Certification exams.  This year, the Chapter is projected to conduct only about 650 . The Chapter Board, staff and volunteers understand the importance of certification to our industry and we are committed to providing as many sessions as safely possible!

Virtual Chapter Events Start This Month with “Durability” on October 13

Our in-person Chapter dinner events are not currently possible. I truly miss the opportunity to see familiar faces and meet new folks from across the industry while sharing a meal and learning something new from a guest speaker. Hard to believe we did not have the 2020 ACI Golf Classic or the Annual Meeting.

The Chapter is adapting to the restrictions. Jaymi Fridley, Chapter Vice President and Program Committee Chair, is starting our virtual meeting schedule with “Durability” on October 13. Learn More and Sign Up Here.

Submit early and often -- at no cost. Award winners can be eligible for the ACI International Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards in 2021. Learn More and Get Your Entry Form Here.

Our Chapter Mirrors the Expertise and Dedication of Our Volunteers

Volunteers make up our Board of Directors, Officers, Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs. They span industry fields with varying levels of experience, but all have a desire to improve the industry. The Chapter is always looking for volunteers. Join a committee! Help us reach and assist our membership!

Thank You!

Despite all of the challenges with 2020, whether socially distanced or working from home, your Chapter is still here working for YOU!

Thank you for your membership, participation and support!
