
John Steven Compoginis passed away on April 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Lura, daughters Angela and Katina, grandchildren Rhys and Magnolia, and brothers Louis and Dean. Born in Berkeley on February 11, 1951, John was raised in Albany and Sacramento, graduating from Rio Americano High School in 1969 before embarking on an adventurous tour through Europe.
During his travels, he worked various jobs, including as a ski shop employee in Switzerland and as yacht crew in Majorca. He returned to Sacramento and earned a degree in English with Dean's Honors from CSU, Sacramento. John had a vibrant personality, working in sales and customer support, and had a passion for classic cars, boats, and motorcycles. He also supported jazz venues in Portland, Oregon, where he met his wife, Lura. They married in 1984 and raised two daughters, enjoying adventurous living, including a stint on a houseboat. John was known for his daring spirit, enjoying skiing, skydiving, and escapades that often defied danger.
"Johnny" Compoginis was an active Chapter member, known to all as "Mr. Fiber". He served as Chapter President in 2005 and never missed a Concrete Regatta.
His funeral service was held privately at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa. The Chapter extends its condolences to his family and close friends during this time of sorrow.
