From The President

Embracing Change, Building Our Future

Dear Chapter Members,

It’s an honor to serve as your President during such a pivotal and promising time. Change is in the air—and I believe it’s something we should be genuinely excited about.

One of our most exciting developments is the launch of our brand-new brick-and-mortar ACI Certification Center. This dedicated space represents a major step forward in our commitment to excellence. It’s not just a facility—it’s a foundation for the future of workforce development, hands-on training, and professionalism in our region.

In addition, we’re making strategic adjustments to how we deliver our certification programs. We’re transitioning from an all-weekend format to a more flexible weekday-first schedule, while still offering some weekend options. This change is designed to make our programs more accessible and responsive to today’s working professionals.

We are also focusing on growing our membership by engaging more contractors and engineers. Their insights, field experience, and technical knowledge are essential to building a chapter that reflects the full scope of our industry.

Navigating this level of change requires not only vision but steady leadership, and I’m proud to say we have both. With a highly experienced Vice President (Jim Ayala) and a Board of Directors rich in industry knowledge, we are well-equipped to guide these transitions thoughtfully and effectively.

All of these efforts are in response to a simple truth: as the industry evolves, so must we. These changes position us to stay ahead of market demands, meet new expectations, and create a chapter that is not only relevant but thriving.

I invite you to join us on this journey. Together, with purpose and unity, we’ll build what comes next.

With gratitude and optimism,

The American Concrete Institute began in 1904, and today continues its technical standards and educational mission throughout the world on every continent except Antarctica.

Industry professionals of all skills are welcome to join ACI International. The breadth and depth of current information about concrete technology, and ACI's involvent in the Concrete Joint Sustainability Initiative, reflect the efforts of ACI International leadership, staff, and hundreds of Technical Committee volunteers who are the best at what they do.

ACI Members in good standing receive substantial discounts on seminars, publications, and manuals, now available in printed and digital formats. Students enrolled in qualifying engineering and Concrete Industry Management programs can become ACI International Student Members at no cost, and have access to a number of essential technical publications. Students can also form their own campus ACI Chapter, under the sponsorship of an existing non-student ACI Chapter in their region.

The American Concrete Institute also provides job opportunity listings for its membership and works with employers around the world to get current listings posted on the website.

Twice a year ACI Conventions bring together Technical Committee members, industry professionals of all specialties, and students from around the world for intensive discussions and competitions, a trade show, and networking on a huge scale, with the backdrop of cities whose local ACI Chapter has arranged industry-related tours, networking, and social events, and makes the Convention attendees welcome.

Please visit the ACI website - www.concrete.org - for much more information about the value of an ACI Membership, and the membership categories and costs.

Students and the ACI

ACI Is Strongly Committed to Students

Full time students in Engineering Programs and Concrete Industry Management Programs can receive a free ACI International Student Membership, with access to many of the ACI Technical Materials. It's a great opportunity for those qualified students.

To learn more about ACI's commitment to students, visit the ACI main website.

Our Chapter provides underwriting of student competitions, such as the Concrete Canoe and ACI Student Competition. We also can help underwrite equipment purchases and other items. To find out how to qualify for underwriting, please contact us.

Throughout the year, qualifying students can attend our dinner meetings for $10, a savings of at least $25. Our meetings provide a great way to meet folks in the industry and possibly find your future at one of their companies. To learn about our meeting topics, click on the "Events" tab in the menu above and see what's coming up.

We Sponsor Two Student ACI Chapters

We are the sponsoring Chapter for the San Jose State Student Chapter and the California State University at Chico Student Chapter. Both schools have very active and strong educational programs, San Jose in engineering and Chico State in Concrete Industry Management (CIM)

Throughout our region many more schools could form Student Chapters, and ACI is ready to help enable new Student Chapters. If a student group would like to have a presentation about forming a Student Chapter please contact us. Find out more about San Jose State and Chico's Student Chapters and the events they are presenting. Both chapters can provide insights into forming and conducting ACI Student Chapters.
