The Northern California and Western Nevada Chapter is sad to announce the passing of Chapter Past President (1988) Ted Allured on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

Ted succumbed to the awful disease of Dementia at the age of 89 at Avalon Healthcare in San Andreas. Ted began his engineering career at General Dynamics, and was the Manager of the Calaveras Cement Plant in San Andreas until his retirement.

He was a past member of the Calaveras County Planning Commission, and served as the Executive Manager of the Northern California and Western Nevada Chapter of the American Concrete Institute, where he also proctored testing for those obtaining their certification in concrete work and helped to stage Chapter events.  He also served as the President of the Chapter in 1988.

He was active in the Black Bart Players in Murphys, was a Past President of the San Andreas Lion’s Club, a 60+ year member of the Masonic Lodges in Jackson and Volcano, Past President of the Mark Twain Hospital Board, Calaveras County Economic Development Company Board, and was a San Andreas Volunteer Firefighter. 

Ted was born and raised in Jackson until moving to Los Altos in high school. He graduated from Los Altos High School and afterwards served as a US Navy Corpsman. Using the GI bill, he went to San Jose State where he obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering. At San Jose State, he met his first wife Carlita and together they had their daughter Shelly. Ted later married Sherry Appleton and inherited 3 bonus children. Ted and Sherry were often found in the same productions of the Black Bart Players as actors, directors, stage crew and costuming/make up. 

Ted loved his cabin at Caple’s Lake on Highway 88 and spent lots of time there until the last several years. He was a fixture at the bar at Plasse’s resort in the summer and the San Andreas VFW hall the rest of the year. He and his name are recognizable by many in Amador and Calaveras counties.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob and his wife Sherry. He is survived by his brother Dick Allured, daughter Shelly Allured Troop and her husband Andy, son Derek Appleton, daughter Michele Perreault and her husband Dan, daughter Erin Borean and her fiancé’ John Morse, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and their families and hundreds of friends. He seemed to know everyone in Amador and Calaveras counties.
